Library 2.0

Very interesting times to be a librarian. If ever the concept of thinking outside of the box was more relevant...
It's a difficult task to keep up with seemingly speed of light technology development but, libraries, I believe are the perfect place to welcome said development. Not only can we make use of such emerging technologies, but as librarians we have the tools to exploit new growth for the most efficacious use to the community. Libraries can act as a middle man for using the best technology as a way of getting information to our customers.

Delicious

Delicious. Cool site. Off hand, I think the best part about it being able to save and use your bookmarks regardless of which computer you're using. I can see the potential for a valuable tool for librarians. Research links that others find helpful can be easily shared.

My Rollyo

Searchroll

Here is a link to my searchroll. This is pretty neat, and up until now I was familiar with most of the objectives/websites introduced in 23 things.

Library Thing

Here are my current favorite books. Not Blood Meridian, though. Oh no. That would be my All-Time Favorite. I am insatiable for that book. A ravenous beast.

LibraryThing

LibraryThing. Very cool! A great way to keep track of the books one wants to read and find new ones. Another cool site one may find useful if LibraryThing is your bag is a site called Goodreads.com. This site allows you to find peers with similar reading tastes, and then to view their reviews of books. Not to take any attention away from LibraryThing, though...

Here's my image. A bit generic I know, but its all I got right now.

RSS Feeds 'Thing'

I still think Google Reader is simpler. I hope I'm not missing the point of these excercises, but I tend to use what's familiar. And, for me, not only is Google Reader familiar, its also very easy. You can search, and they show you other blog/feeds that may interest you based on your other subscriptions.

Technology

I would consider myself somewhat technology averse. A bit of a luddite. Example: I'm not a very big fan of the iPhone. Maybe the commercials have ruined it for me. But when there's a commercial advertising apps where one can read a book on your iPhone, or calculate out a tip at a restaurent, or even finding your parked car in a parking lot, my immediate thought is not 'Boy, I need one of those right now'. It's usually along the lines of, I can read an ACTUAL book, on your check move the decimal place to the left then add half that number and that's a 15% tip, and if you don't know where you're parked in a lot perhaps you should be taking the bus.

Bands!

Here's a link to a Municipal Waste pic. Great crossover band. Saw them play in Dallas with Swedish greats At the Gates and other thrashers.

23 Things: 7 1/2 Habits

After viewing the '7 1/2 Habits...' video and asked to post a blog entry detailing which habit bests suits you and why...Well, all these things seem to be methods of learning all of us do everyday without giving much thought to. As an employee, nay, a person living in a world of such developing technologies, I believe it would be false to say one only learns by one method or another. It would seem that in our day to day lives, we learn by an amalgam of different methods: burgeoning technologies such as the internet and blogs, traditional non-electronic reading, speaking and engaging with intelligent people in our environments, et. al.
My two cents.
